About this product

The BEVS Drying Time Recorder is used for the test of drying time or gel behaviour of a variety of paints and coatings. The BEVS Drying Time Recorder has the characteristics of intuition and good reproducibility, and can accurately evaluate in all stages. The initiative design of touch screen control, customised user-defined start time and test time, make the operation more intuitive, simple.

BEVS 1813 / 1815 Drying Time Recorder

SKU · BEVS 1815, BEVS 1813, BEVS 1813S

BEVS Drying Time Recorders test the drying time or gel behaviour of paints and coatings to ASTM D5895 and ISO 9117-4. A stylus travels along a coated glass strip over the set test time, and the track it leaves shows each stage of drying. Three models: the 10-track BEVS 1815 and the 6-track BEVS 1813 and 1813S, all with touchscreen control.

  • BEVS 1815, 10 tracks. Drying time of 6, 12, 24 or 48 hours, selectable. Custom Track (Track 1): besides standard time, users can customise the start and test times. Mid-Test Reset: during the test, users can interrupt a track test as needed.
  • BEVS 1813, 6 tracks with drawdown. 1 minute to 240 hours, start and test times can be set independently for each of the three control modules. Can be used with glass strip and a BEVS 1805/1 cube applicator for drawdown; after drawdown, reset the instrument and start the drying time test.
  • BEVS 1813S, 6 tracks. Drying time of 1 minute to 240 hours, with auto reset.
  • Result judging. The BEVS 1815 is read via the time scale. The BEVS 1813 and 1813S directly display the measurement time at specified positions.
  • Optional vision system. The BEVS 1813 and 1813S can be used with the BEVS 1813-P01 vision system to automatically record and identify each track.
  • Touchscreen control. User-defined start time and test time are set from the touchscreen.

When to use the BEVS 1813 / 1815 Drying Time Recorder

Choose a BEVS Drying Time Recorder when you need a recorded drying test to ASTM D5895 or ISO 9117-4, then pick the model by the number of tracks, the drying time range and whether you want to draw down the film on the instrument.

  • 1
A recorded drying test to ASTM D5895 or ISO 9117-4
Both standards specify a mechanical recorder. The stylus leaves a single track on the glass strip that shows each stage of drying (levelling, solvent evaporation, sol-gel transition, surface dry and final dry), so the result is a physical record you can read back afterwards, not an operator's judgement at a set time. The BEVS 1813S lists ASTM D5895 only.
  • 2
More tracks per run (BEVS 1815)
The BEVS 1815 has 10 tracks in 5 groups, driven by 5 motors with 2 tracks per motor. One group can be set freely, and an individual track can be stopped if necessary. The BEVS 1813 and 1813S have 6 tracks.
  • 3
    Slow-drying or long-curing coatings (BEVS 1813 and 1813S)
The BEVS 1813 and 1813S can be set anywhere from 1 minute to 240 hours, and on the 1813 the start and test times are set independently for each of the three control modules. The BEVS 1815's drying times are fixed at 6, 12, 24 or 48 hours, plus a custom setting on Track 1. So for a coating that takes days to cure fully, or one that needs an unusual test time, the 1813 or 1813S is the better choice.
  • 4
Applying the film and testing it on the same instrument (BEVS 1813)
The BEVS 1813 is the only one of the three with a drawdown function. You draw the film down on the glass strip with the BEVS 1805/1 cube applicator, then reset the instrument and start the drying time test. The BEVS 1815 also comes with the cube applicator, but it has no drawdown function, so the film is applied separately.

Frequently asked questions

What does the BEVS Drying Time Recorder measure?

The drying time or gel behaviour of paints and coatings. A stylus travels along a coated glass strip over the set test time, and the track it leaves shows each stage of drying: levelling, solvent evaporation, sol-gel transition, surface dry and final dry.

Which standards do the BEVS 1815, 1813 and 1813S meet?

The BEVS 1815 and BEVS 1813 meet ASTM D5895 and ISO 9117-4. The BEVS 1813S meets ASTM D5895.

What is the difference between the BEVS 1815, 1813 and 1813S?

The BEVS 1815 has 10 tracks on 5 motors, drying times of 6, 12, 24 or 48 hours plus a custom Track 1, manual reset, and results read via the time scale. The BEVS 1813 and 1813S have 6 tracks on 3 motors, a range of 1 minute to 240 hours, auto reset, and directly display the measurement time at specified positions. The BEVS 1813 also has a drawdown function. The 1813 and 1813S can be used with the optional BEVS 1813-P01 vision system, which records and identifies each track automatically.

What drying times can be set on the BEVS Drying Time Recorder?

On the BEVS 1815: 6, 12, 24 or 48 hours, selectable, and Track 1 can have its own start and test times. On the BEVS 1813 and 1813S: anywhere from 1 minute to 240 hours.

What size glass strips does the BEVS Drying Time Recorder use?

The BEVS 1815 and 1813S take 302 x 25 x 3 mm strips (BEVS 1815/P/007, 100 per pack). The BEVS 1813 takes wide 365 x 60 x 3 mm strips (BEVS 1813/P/030) or narrow 365 x 25 x 3 mm strips (BEVS 1813/P/040), both 100 per pack.

Is a film applicator included?

The BEVS 1815 and BEVS 1813 come with the BEVS 1805/1 Cube Applicator (16 mm wide, 37 and 75 µm gaps). The BEVS 1813S is supplied without it, and the applicator can be ordered separately.
