The SA40 Ultrasonic Wall Thickness Gauge is a hand held thickness gauge specifically designed for measuring the thickness of metallic, and non-metallic materials from one side where it is not possible to gain access to the other side.  Materials that can be measured includes : aluminium, titanium, plastics, ceramics, glass and other good ultrasonic wave-conducting materials, as long as the material has parallel top and bottom surfaces.
With uses in many areas of industry, the SA40 can perform precise measurements on various types of raw materials, component parts, and assembled machinery.  It can also be used to monitor all types of pipes and pressure vessels for loss of thickness due to corrosion. The SA40 is very easy to use.  After a simple calibration to a known thickness or sound velocity, the gauge will give fast and accurate readings in millimeters.

Sound Velocities

Sound Velocities / Speed of Sound in Materials for Ultrasonic Thickness Gauges

The Ultrasonic Thickness Gauges can be programmed by the user to the appropriate material in two ways :

  • Using known standards of the same material – set the calibration to the thickness
  • Using the frequency calibration, set the frequency to the appropriate material using the Velocity / Speed of Sound Chart below.
